Lift Ev’ry Chair and Swing

With the toss of a hat, August 5th, 2023, became a historic day of unity among Black patrons of the Montgomery, Alabama riverboats. Victims turned into victors as they took a stand against the brutality of a Black man from white assailants who failed to comply with safety guidelines. Considering the significance a seat has historically played in Black movements of resistance, the folding chair as a beacon of freedom makes for a full-circle moment. Black unity FOREVER.
